What Kind Of Snake Is Black With Yellow Stripes?

A black snake with yellow stripes could be classified as a Garter or a Ribbon snake. These snakes are not venomous (but do not touch wild snakes to try to test this!) and generally eat small fish and frogs. They are found close to water supplies as this is where their main food source lives. Ponds, small rivers, and lakes are often home to these types of snake, but often they venture out in search of alternative food sources and may make that journey through or near your garden.

The stripes on these snakes can also be orange or red and they can have a varied amount of stripes on their body.
Another snake which is black in colour with yellow stripes is the Texas Patchnose snake which averages around 3 feet in length. These snakes are active in the day time and eat small rodents, lizards and other small snakes. They are also not venomous, but again do not touch this animal to test this.

The Mangrove snake is also black with yellow stripes, which is also sometimes called the Cat snake. They are slightly venomous and live anywhere between Australia and South Asia, preferring the ground or trees as a habitat. At night they often catch and eat birds that roost in the trees with their triangular heads and wide jaws and fangs that are set to the rear of their mouths. The Mangrove snake can grow to over 2.5 metres, but normally they grow to around 1.5 metres.

If the stripes when along the body, from head to tail rather then around the body from the back to the stomach it was probably a common water snake, they are non poisonous but can biteI. When handled their bodies secret a very strong odor. Normally they will do no harm and stay away from humans and pets

A black snake with yellow stripes is likely a garden/garter/gardner (it is known as all 3 and a few more names) snake.  Non-poisonous but it has a scent gland that can put out a stink if you frighten it.

Garter snake non poisonous. Found in my creek. There found near moist areas or water.

King Snake or Garden Snake.

OK, I'm in NC too and everything I've read is indicating the very long thick black snake with the yellow bands swimming at us in the lake is a California King Snake, but they aren't supposed to be down here.  Is it possible it still could have been a Ca King?

I was sitting on my porch last night, and out of the corner of my eye, I see a Black Snake with either yellow, or white stripes going around it's body! What type of snake is this, and is it dangerous to me and my animals?

I don't know for sure, but I know a black one with yellow bands and a black and yellow checkered belly and a diamond shaped head just nutted up and tried to strike at me while I was cutting my grass not an hour ago.  Silly snake, never nut up on me when I have a shovel in my hand.

I also want to know what a snake thats black with vibrant yellow bands and checkerboard on the belley the under side of the head is all yellow and its probably only like 7 inches long  it was found in w.v

I'm confused. While walking down the asphalt drive with my dogs I heard a rattle. I noted vivid lemon yellow stripes going around this snake. I quickly retrieved my 3 dogs and left the area.
The snake left in the opposite direction. Can't say if the snake was black or tan. It was approx. 4' long.  The guy gave us a warning with his rattle and I am grateful.

I'm pretty sure those lemon yellow stripes were going around the snake and not from head to tail. Have to say I did panic.

Okay thanks I had found a snake that was black & yellow behind my cousins house & it was on her foot lol I was so scared but as I knw I'm always the last one running she said it was hot we ran into the house jumped on my aunts bed & thought it chased us home lmfao. What a story.

King snake

I'm not sure; but if you fry them with vegetable or olive oil they taste a lot like chicken.  If you don't fry them just right, they taste more like oppossum.
