When a wild pond tadpole is newly hatched, the first thing it will eat is its egg jelly. As they get a little bigger and start to develop they will nibble on pond algae that grows in the shallows of the pond along the edges. They will also move onto larger leaves or the stems of nearby plants. When they are a little bigger and developed they will adapt a more carnivorous diet by eating dead fish, dead tadpoles or worms.

If you are keeping tadpoles in a tank in your home, they will usually nibble at the algae that grows on rocks in your tank so make sure you have a lot of these because they also like to hide underneath them. If you're a bit worried that there is not enough natural food growing in your tank, then tadpoles will also eat boiled lettuce, or if you have a bottom feeder fish, they could both eat alge pellets. Depending on how many you have, boil enough leaves for 10 to 15 minutes and remember to chop them into tiny pieces so they can eat them. It is essential that you don't overfeed them.

As they get older they will happily feed on crushed fish food flakes or even a few pieces of shredded mince meat, remember to keep their portions tiny so they can eat them. If you feed them mince, only put it in the tank a bit at a time or every so often, otherwise the tank water will go bad. You could even try finding them worms, if you can get any from your garden.

Another food that tadpoles appear to like are bloodworms. These can easily be bought from pet stores but as mentioned before, you can just dig up some worms in your garden and feed them to the tadpoles. Just remember that algae is their main food source when they are young, so make sure they have lots of rocks for it to grow on. When they're older, lettuce, spinach and cabbage leaves are also great.

Tadpoles usually eat algae off of rocks or anything that has algae on it. It is also a good idea to get rocks for them to hid under.

Newly hatched tadpoles eat their egg jelly, and then move on to algae which you can see them nibbling off the sides of the pond or off the stems and leaves of pond plants. When they are a bit bigger they become more carnivorous and will eat dead fish or other dead tadpoles and worms etc.

If you feel there is not enough natural food in your pond, when they are little you could float a (clean) lettuce leaf or spinach leaf for them. Later on they will happily nibble on fish food or a few morsels of raw mince. Only put in a little of this at a time as you do not want the water to go bad.

My tadpoles do well on this regime, and it helps more of them to survive to froglet stage.

When I had some, I went back to the pond where I caught them and looked at what the other's were eating. It came to this: A few random plants, algae, and other tadpoles that for some reason had already died.

Well, the way I found out was typing in 'tadpoles' on Google. That way, I found out how you can feed them fish-food flakes or boiled lettuce. But I am trying to raise some wild tadpoles too, in a fish tank. I'm struggling too, to find out what to feed them, I know I may have not been a help though. All the above answers are brilliant.lol

make way for the new diet. Most tadpoles are herbivorous, subsisting on algae and plants. Some species are omnivorous, eating detritus and, whenever available, other tadpoles.

Boiled frozen lettuce, fish flakes and algae. If you have a lot of tadpoles then use an ice cube tray and freeze the algae in cubes. Give them one cube every 2-4 days. I have a website that tells you every thing that needs to be known about caring for tadpoles.

allaboutfrogs.org

this website will help out a lot.

You can go to www.wikipedia.org, type in "tadpole" don't use a plural. You can also call Petco, see if they can help you out. Good luck.
