The central nervous system is connected to every part of the body by 43 pairs of nerves. Twelve pairs go to and from the brain, with 31 pairs going from the spinal cord. There are nearly 45 miles of nerves running through our bodies.

The total length of your circulatory system, including blood vessels,  stretches an amazing 60,000 miles (97,000 km) in a child and nearly 100,000 miles (161,000 km) in an adult.

The diameter of the earth at Ecuator is around 25,000 miles that mean if the blood vessels of an adult were lined up end to end, they would circle the earth four times!!

The junction of nerves is called a synapes. This is where the electrical signal that moves along the nerves is converted to a chemical signal, before crossing the synapse into the next nerve and being converted back into an electrical signal.

Individual nerve length varies hugely in the body, some can be short, some can be long. The sciatic nerve which runs from the lower back, down through the leg is the longest single nerve in the body.
